Genesis

The first word of creation — God as origin of all. Grounds the gospel foundation of the recovery model.

It is not good for man to be alone. The first declaration of human need for relationship — grounds Tier 1 and the belonging need.

The serpent's first question: Did God really say? The entry point of ideological corruption into the human story, and the root of every Tier 2–7 substitution.

Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. Paul's anchor for justification by faith.

Leviticus

Love your neighbor as yourself. The second great commandment — the relational foundation of Tier 1.

I will walk among you and be your God. The covenant presence — the original Immanuel promise.

Numbers

The Aaronic blessing — the LORD bless you and keep you. Used in the context of blessing theology and the Immanuel moments.

Deuteronomy

Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget. The call to guarded memory as formation practice.

The Shema — Hear, O Israel. Love the Lord your God with all your heart. The foundation of Tier 1.

These words shall be on your heart — teach them diligently to your children. Formation as the work of presence and daily life.

The secret things belong to the LORD — but the revealed things belong to us. The humility that precedes wisdom.

I have set before you life and death — choose life. The Double Bind at its most elemental form.

Joshua

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. The household covenant.

Nehemiah

The joy of the LORD is your strength. Joy as structural necessity — not emotion but fuel.

Psalm

I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

The heavens declare the glory of God. Creation as testimony.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? The psalm Jesus prays from the cross — the full descent into the human cry.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. The physical language of grief.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. The pastoral rhythm of restoration.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him. The posture of Tier 1.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Be still, and know that I am God. The quieting at the center — the receiver tuned to the Place of Hearing.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. God who holds the grief.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Scripture as orienting truth.

Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. Scripture as formation.

I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother. The quieting that is trust.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Search me, O God, and know my heart. The diagnostic prayer — inviting the deepest knowing.

Proverbs

To receive instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity. The purpose of wisdom — the framework's epistemological foundation.

Let the wise hear and increase in learning. The posture of the learner.

My son, do not walk in the way with them. The path that leads away from wisdom.

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you. Hesed as the relational core.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. The antidote to the orphan spirit's self-sufficiency.

Hear, O sons, a father's instruction. Formation through relationship — father to son.

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom.

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. The heart as the source — where Scripture and neuroscience converge.

Go to the ant, O sluggard — consider her ways and be wise. The dignity of practical wisdom, Layer 8.

The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Wisdom and holiness as inseparable.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. The first axiom of all the layers.

A soft answer turns away wrath. Relational wisdom in its most concrete form — Layer 6.

Before destruction a man's heart is haughty. The trajectory pride sets in motion.

If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. The diagnostic prerequisite — listen before you speak.

The purpose in a man's heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out. The art of listening that makes recovery possible.

The prudent sees danger and hides himself. Wise anticipation — foundational to the FASTER Scale.

Like a dog that returns to its vomit is a fool who repeats his folly. The wisdom tradition's honesty about relapse.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend. The relational cost and gift of Level 5 friendship.

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint. Vision as the prerequisite to faithful formation.

The fear of man lays a snare. The Layer 1 warning — systemic anxiety as a trap.

Ecclesiastes

Two are better than one. The threefold cord that is not quickly broken — the anchor of Roots Exposed.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might. The dignity of work — Ecclesiastes' practical realism.

Isaiah

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

For to us a child is born — Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.

Your ears will hear a word behind you saying, 'This is the way, walk in it.' The Place of Hearing — Tier 1 and Restoration.

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

A bruised reed he will not break, a faintly burning wick he will not quench. The Gardener does not uproot.

Can a woman forget her nursing child? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.

He was despised and rejected — a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

My word shall not return to me empty. The faithfulness of the seed regardless of soil.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to proclaim liberty to the captives. Yeshua's mission statement.

Jeremiah

They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves — broken cisterns that hold no water. The core diagnostic.

Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength. The shrub in the desert.

The shrub and the tree — where the roots go determines what the drought does to you.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD — the tree planted by water.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick. The limbic system in Scripture.

For I know the plans I have for you — plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. The new covenant.

Ezekiel

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. Not behavior modification — heart transplant.

My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Amos

Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate.

Zephaniah

The LORD your God is in your midst — he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will quiet you by his love, he will exult over you with loud singing. The Father's face of joy.

Matthew

They shall call his name Immanuel — God with us.

You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased — spoken before Jesus had done any ministry. Working from identity, not for it.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Grief as a gift — Dodd's Voice of the Heart in the Beatitudes.

Blessed are the peacemakers. Peace-making (not peace-mongering) as the Friedman calling.

If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out. The Double Bind — the cost of the better choice.

You have heard it said, 'An eye for an eye' — but I say to you... The new ethic of the Kingdom.

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven. The Lord's Prayer as the sons' language.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth.

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The heart follows the treasure.

Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye but not the log in your own? The self-awareness prerequisite to helping.

Enter by the narrow gate. The two paths — every FASTER Scale decision.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear. The Place of Hearing — the receiver that must be tuned.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. The invitation — Tier 1 as the center that receives.

The house empty, swept, and put in order. The danger of recovery without replacement.

Let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom. Childlike trust as the posture of Tier 1.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Yeshua in Gethsemane — grief carried honestly.

Not as I will, but as you will. The surrender that is not weakness.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Yeshua entering the full abandonment so we need not stay there.

Mark

He looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart. Yeshua feeling what is true.

From within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts... The heart as source of behavior.

I believe; help my unbelief! The honest prayer — faith that names its own insufficiency.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The second great commandment — Tier 1's relational half.

Luke

The laborer deserves his wages. Paul's citation from the oral Jesus tradition.

Which of these three was a neighbor? Go, and do likewise. The Good Samaritan shatters Tier 2–7 boundaries.

A man had a fig tree... Let it alone this year also, until I dig around it. The parable that names the Gardener.

Which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost? Practical wisdom before action.

John

To all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God.

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. God going at three miles an hour.

You have kept the good wine until now. The first sign — joy restored and upgraded.

He himself believed, and all his household. The second sign — restoration overflowing to the whole house.

I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. The mission behind every layer of the model.

Jesus wept. The shortest verse. The deepest permission.

Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone. Death as prerequisite to fruitfulness.

In my Father's house are many rooms. Belonging as structural reality — not earned but prepared.

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. The direct answer to the orphan spirit.

We will come to him and make our home with him. The indwelling at the center of Tier 1.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives.

Abide in me, and I in you. Abiding — the architecture of Tier 1.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Apart from me you can do nothing.

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe... The high-priestly prayer — unity flowing from rootedness in the Father.

Acts

Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures.

Romans

None is righteous, no, not one. The universal diagnosis before the universal solution.

I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. The FASTER Scale in Paul.

Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? The cry that precedes Romans 8.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The first movement — No Condemnation.

You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!' The spirit of sonship — antidote to the orphan spirit.

Neither death nor life... will be able to separate us from the love of God. The second movement — No Separation.

Be transformed by the renewal of your mind. The VIM architecture — Vision, Intention, Means.

As in one body we have many members... so we, though many, are one body in Christ.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. The empathic attunement that is presence.

Repay no one evil for evil.

Owe no one anything, except to love each other.

We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak. Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you.

1 Corinthians

I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. The dignity of the body.

To the married I give this charge — not I, but the Lord.

The Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you. Paul passing on the tradition.

2 Corinthians

We are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. Sanctification as gradual transformation.

We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God.

From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh.

He made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Take every thought captive to obey Christ. Layer 8 — the mind under Lordship.

My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

Galatians

Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? The Layer 1 diagnostic.

The whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace... Restoration on the FASTER Scale.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression... bear one another's burdens.

Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Ephesians

The immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe.

We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Identity before activity.

He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers — for the equipping of the saints.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger. Give no opportunity to the devil.

Philippians

Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer... let your requests be made known to God.

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Colossians

Christ in you, the hope of glory. The indwelling — the recovery model's deepest anchor.

As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him. The same posture that received Him is the posture that continues.

1 Thessalonians

This we declare to you by a word from the Lord... Paul appealing directly to the teaching of Jesus.

1 Timothy

In later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits. The Tier 2–7 warning made explicit.

2 Timothy

God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.

Hebrews

The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword — discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. The unchanging anchor beneath all the layers.

James

Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.

Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Action as the test of rootedness.

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking daily food, and one of you says 'Go in peace' without giving them what is needed — what good is that?

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

1 Peter

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

2 Peter

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Everything needed is already given.

1 John

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.

We love because he first loved us. Love is response, not initiation — the foundation of every helping relationship.

Jude

Certain people have crept in unnoticed — ungodly people who pervert the grace of our God.

Revelation

You have abandoned the love you had at first. The diagnostic of drift — Tier 1 as the first love.
